2D Class Week 06 The Art of Jim Henson

Image
This week's artist was Jim Henson, known for his puppet work in the Muppets, Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, Sesame Street and others. His characters are always filled with life and very creative, and there's no one aesthetic to them all. God, I love Labyrinth . My Pinterest: My reference sheet:

2D Class Week 05 (One, Two, Three Perspective)

Image
For this assignment we had to do a black and white illustration of one, two or three point perspective and include buildings. I chose a Japanese street for my one point perspective. I decided to free hand and paint because it has more personality to it. With lineart:

2D Class Week 05 The Art of Frank Frazetta

Image
This weeks illustrator was Frank Frazetta who works mostly in comics and book illustrations. Unfortunately, I really gotta say I didn't like this artist and compiled these sheets out of obligation. There's just something about his art that makes me uncomfortable; like it's a strange perversion or I'm looking at his fetishes. There's all these beautiful naked women running around with beasts or weapons like they're strong but they have the bodies of swimsuit models more than warriors. Then you've got the images where women are being held down or about to be hurt or even killed and they're just... beautiful and vulnerable. I feel like I'm looking at those pulp fiction novels that got pumped out in the past, where all the covers were beautiful women about to be murdered. It just... gives me a bad vibe. So I picked as much art of his that had nothing to do with women, and mostly sketches. My pinterest: My reference sheet:

2D Class Week 04 The Art of Drew Struzan

Image
This week's artist was Drew Struzan, an illustrator known for creating movie poster and album cover images. When it comes to this artist, his images are so iconic that even if you don't know his name you recognize his work. For me I prefer his sketches, mostly just because there's something more raw and unrefined about them. Seeing his process and work mindset was more fascinating to me. 3D Class Week 05 Modeling A Prop

Image
For this week's assignment we had to model a simple prop. Because of how little experience I have with modeling, I decided to model the cannon whose reference was given to us. Setting up my scale in Maya: My reference scale to the mannequin: And then I modeled my cannon following the instructional videos, keeping it under 900 tris: My finished model in Unreal:

2D Class Week 02 Silhouettes

Image
For this weeks assignment we had to make silhouettes of either characters, creatures, weapons, transport or environments. I chose creatures and created 8 silhouettes of sea serpents. I tried to differentiate them in overall shape, from rounder to thinner, but while keeping sea serpent qualities (the long neck, some kind of fin or tail)

2D Class Week 02 The Art of Brian Froud

Image
This weeks artist was Brian Froud, an illustrator and concept artist that worked on movies like Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal . Something about his work makes me think of the Sandman comics by Neil Gaiman. I think he would have been perfect for that series. My Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/robotnoire/brian-froud/ As well as a reference file: I adore the knight on his horse, I'm not sure why but that one is my favorite.
